IELTS WRITING TASK 2 – TECHNOLOGY

Many things that used to be done in the home by hands are now being done by machines.

Does this development bring more advantages or disadvantages?

In today’s fast-paced world, machines have become an integral part of our lives. Many tasks that were once done by hands are now being efficiently performed by machines. While this development brings numerous advantages, it also carries some disadvantages.

One of the significant advantages of using machines is increased efficiency and productivity. Machines can perform repetitive tasks with precision and speed, saving time and effort for individuals. For instance, dishwashers can clean a large number of dishes in a short period, allowing people to focus on other important activities. Moreover, machines often provide better accuracy and consistency than human labor, ensuring high-quality results. Additionally, the use of machines reduces physical strain on individuals. Tasks that require heavy lifting or repetitive motions can lead to musculoskeletal disorders over time. By employing machines for such tasks, the risk of injuries is significantly reduced.

However, there are also disadvantages associated with this development. Firstly, excessive reliance on machines may lead to job loss and unemployment in certain sectors. As more tasks are automated, many workers may find themselves without employment opportunities or forced to acquire new skills to adapt to the changing job market. Furthermore, the use of machines can create a sense of detachment from manual labor and craftsmanship. With automation becoming prevalent in various industries like manufacturing or agriculture, traditional skills may be lost over time as fewer individuals engage in hands-on work.

In conclusion, while there are undeniable advantages to using machines for tasks previously done by hands at home, such as increased efficiency and reduced physical strain; it is essential to consider the potential disadvantages as well. The loss of jobs and detachment from manual labor should be carefully addressed through retraining programs and efforts to preserve traditional skills alongside technological advancements.
