IELTS WRITING TASK 2 – SOCIETY

Many people are copying celebrities from magazines and TV.

Why is this happening?

Do you think it’s a good idea to copy celebrities?

In today’s society, it is undeniable that many people are copying the lifestyles and behaviors of celebrities they see in magazines and on TV. This phenomenon can be attributed to various factors, including the desire for social validation, the influence of media, and the human tendency to idolize others. However, while some may argue that copying celebrities is a good idea as it allows individuals to express themselves creatively or stay up-to-date with trends, I firmly believe that blindly imitating celebrities is not a wise choice.

One reason why people copy celebrities is the need for social validation. By emulating their favorite stars, individuals hope to gain acceptance and admiration from their peers. Moreover, media plays a significant role in promoting celebrity culture by constantly showcasing their lavish lifestyles and fashion choices. This exposure can lead people to believe that imitating these famous figures will bring them happiness and success.

However, blindly copying celebrities can have detrimental effects on one’s well-being. Celebrities often project an unrealistic image of perfection which can lead to feelings of inadequacy among those who try to replicate them. Moreover, this obsession with celebrity culture can distract individuals from focusing on their own personal growth and development.

Instead of mindlessly copying celebrities, we should encourage individuality and self-expression. People should embrace their unique qualities rather than conforming to societal expectations set by famous figures who may not always be positive role models.

In conclusion, while it is understandable why many people are tempted to copy celebrities due to the desire for social validation or influence from media portrayals, blindly imitating them is not advisable. Rather than striving for imitation, we should promote individuality and encourage people to develop their own identities based on personal values and aspirations rather than those dictated by popular culture icons.
