IELTS WRITING TASK 2 – HEALTH

Some people think that the government is responsible for the rise in obesity in children while others think it is the fault of the parents.

Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Obesity in children has become a pressing issue in many societies, and the blame game between government and parents is ongoing. Some argue that the government is responsible for this rise due to its failure to regulate the food industry effectively. On the other hand, some believe that parents should take full responsibility for their child’s health and eating habits.

Those who blame the government argue that it has allowed food companies to market unhealthy products directly to children. They claim that insufficient regulations on advertising and labeling have led to an increase in consumption of sugary snacks and beverages. Moreover, they argue that schools often provide unhealthy meals, contributing further to childhood obesity.

On the contrary, proponents of parental responsibility argue that parents have control over what their children eat at home. They believe that parents should educate themselves about nutrition and make healthier choices for their families. Additionally, they assert that it is ultimately up to parents to instill healthy eating habits in their children from an early age.

In my opinion, both parties share some responsibility for the rise in childhood obesity. While governments should implement stricter regulations on food marketing and improve school meal programs, parents must also prioritize their child’s health by making informed decisions about nutrition. Ultimately, a collaborative effort between government policies and parental responsibility is crucial in combating this growing epidemic.
