IELTS WRITING TASK 2 – ENVIRONMENT

Government investment in public transport and reductions in public transport prices will greatly help the fight against transport pollution.

Do you agree or disagree?

I strongly agree that government investment in public transport and reductions in public transport prices will greatly help the fight against transport pollution. The transportation sector is a major contributor to air pollution, with private vehicles being the primary culprits. By encouraging people to use public transport through financial incentives, governments can effectively reduce the number of private vehicles on the road.

Investing in public transport infrastructure is crucial for providing efficient and accessible alternatives to private cars. This includes expanding bus networks, building new train lines, and improving cycling infrastructure. When these options are readily available and affordable, more people will be inclined to leave their cars at home.

Additionally, reducing public transport prices will make it more attractive for individuals who may currently find it cheaper or more convenient to drive. Lower fares would not only encourage existing users but also entice new passengers who were previously deterred by high costs.

By shifting from private vehicles to public transport, we can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality. Public transportation systems are generally more energy-efficient than individual cars since they carry multiple passengers at once. Moreover, electric buses and trains can be introduced into these systems, further reducing carbon emissions.

In conclusion, government investment in public transport infrastructure coupled with reductions in prices is a vital step towards combating transport pollution. Not only does it provide an eco-friendly alternative for commuters but also contributes to cleaner air and a healthier environment for all.
