IELTS WRITING TASK 1 – DIAGRAM

The diagram shows how a solar-powered water pump works. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

A village’s water supply is illustrated in the diagram by means of a solar-powered water pump. The system consists of three primary parts: a solar panel, an underground well or bore with a pump, and a tank to store the water once it has been pumped up from the subterranean source.

Gathering sunlight to power the pump is the first step in the process. A solar panel made up of photovoltaic cells is positioned high above the ground, facing the sun. The panel collects DC electricity when it is in direct sunlight. Within an underground well or bore, a water pump suspended below the water’s surface is powered by this DC current that travels from the panel.

The water in the well is pumped using DC power into an outlet pipe that travels up the well, past the bore cap, and into the top of a ground-level water tank. After that, the water travels through a pipe to a village, where the locals can use fresh water.
