IELTS WRITING TASK 1 – COMBINATION GRAPHS

The table and chart show the time spent on leisure and household activities in Britain. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar graph and table below compare the daily amounts of time that men and women in Britain spend on different household chores and leisure activities.

Overall, while women are more active in domestic chores than men, the two sexes spend almost similar time on leisure activities every day.

It is evident that women perform a greater proportion of household work than men, with the exception of repairs. When it comes to cooking and cleaning, women typically take about 75 minutes, which is over twice as long as men. While men refuse to perform these tasks, housewives view shopping and laundry as their two most important daily tasks, taking 35 and 30 minutes, respectively. Interestingly, men spend over twice as long as women doing the same tasks—roughly 19 minutes a day—repairing things.

Sport takes up the least amount of leisure time for both genders, while TV, video, and radio are the most popular leisure activities. Both genders spend nearly equal amounts of time on these three activities. Every day, people watch and listen to TV for approximately two hours, and they read for almost thirty minutes. Men spend a little more time playing sports than women do.
