IELTS WRITING TASK 1 – MAP

The two maps demonstrate how, between 1990 and 2010, the ground floor of a museum underwent a number of minor but significant modifications. Overall, a few facilities had been added, whereas some had been removed.

Although the entrance was widened and some areas were used for different purposes, the overall layout stayed the same, with the stairs and entrance located in the same location. The Archaeology Gallery’s removal was the most obvious change. Two new spaces were added in its place: a kids’ interactive zone and a poster display area. The Natural History and Local History rooms remained the same size and location, but the latter had one wall removed to create a more open space.

The reception counter was moved closer to the entrance and enlarged, but the museum office remained the same. The café was added to the original gift shop. The statue was moved to the centre of the floor from its location next to the staircase in 1990. Between the Natural History Room and the Gift Shop, a lift was added.
